MEP Mechanical / Plumbing Designer

S Y Lee Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced MEP Mechanical and/or Plumbing Designer to support the design and production of construction documents for commercial, educational, municipal, healthcare, private, and public-sector projects.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with mechanical and/or plumbing building system design, is proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit, and can develop accurate, well-coordinated designs and construction documents while working closely with our engineering and project management teams.

Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical and/or plumbing system designs and prepare construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Prepare system layouts, equipment plans, details, schedules, and related construction documents.
- Assist with HVAC and/or plumbing system design, including ductwork, piping, equipment layouts, and system coordination.
- Perform or assist with engineering calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection under the direction of engineers and project managers.
- Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
- Incorporate engineering markups, plan-check comments, and client feedback into construction documents.
- Review drawings for accuracy, code compliance, coordination, and completeness.
- Maintain company drafting/BIM standards while meeting project schedules and deadlines.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of mechanical and/or plumbing design or drafting experience for building projects preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit required.
- Experience developing mechanical and/or plumbing building-system layouts.
- Experience preparing construction documents for commercial, institutional, or similar building projects preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Ability to understand and apply engineering calculations, design direction, and markups.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and coordinate effectively with engineers, project managers, and other team members.
Preferred Experience
- Mechanical/HVAC Design: HVAC system layouts, duct sizing, air distribution, mechanical piping, equipment selection, and heating/cooling load calculations.
- Plumbing Design: Domestic water, sanitary waste, vent, natural gas, plumbing fixture layouts, and pipe sizing.
- Construction Documents: Developing coordinated mechanical and/or plumbing drawings from architectural backgrounds through permit submittal.
- MEP Coordination: Experience coordinating building systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
- California Projects: Experience with commercial, educational, municipal, healthcare, or other institutional projects, and familiarity with applicable California building codes, Title 24, and DSA requirements.
Compensation: $25.00 - $50.00 per hour
